Malware sounds like one of those tech words people throw around, but don’t understand. Still, if you’re running a business or even just using the internet for work, you need to know what it is and how to deal with it. Malware is any kind of software designed to mess with your devices, steal your info, or hold your data hostage. Not fun.
In today’s blog, we’ll break down the three most common types of malware and why ignoring them is a huge mistake, especially if you want your business to stay up and running.
## Malware You’re Most Likely to Run Into
### Viruses
Viruses are like the annoying kids at a party who show up uninvited and break everything. They attach themselves to files or programs, and once you open them, they start spreading across your system. They slow down your computers, ruin files, or even crash everything. While viruses used to be the big threat, these days, there are even nastier things out there.
### Ransomware
This one’s scary. Ransomware locks you out of your own files or systems and demands money to get them back. And even if you pay, there’s no guarantee you’ll get anything back. Hackers have gotten even worse with this by threatening to leak your private info online unless you pay up. So yeah, it’s a digital hostage situation.
### Spyware
Spyware hides in your computer without you knowing and watches everything you do. It can track what you type, which means your passwords, bank info, and personal data are all at risk. It’s sneaky and can hang around for a long time without being noticed unless you know what to look for.
## Why Would Anyone Target My Business?
If you think your business is too small to be a target, think again. Hackers don’t care if you’re running a huge company or a side hustle; they want your data. That could be anything from customer credit card numbers to employee records to business secrets.
