By now, you know that every business needs to prioritize its entire security footprint, including technology. The security technology used in businesses today has a huge effect on the overall security of an organization. This means that you have to have a coordinated effort that allows your security initiatives to consider your business’ IT. When your employees communicate effectively, it really builds efficiency. Unfortunately, this doesn’t always happen.
Good communication among team members, regardless of their role, is vital for departments to collaborate effectively, especially between IT and security teams.
Your teams need to be able to work together smoothly. Since IT and security will have important discussions, it’s crucial that the tools they use help both sides communicate well.
During these discussions, your IT and security teams should cover:
- **Necessary updates** - What’s needed, what’s planned, and what’s currently being implemented
- **Current challenges** - What problems are causing delays, and how to solve them
- **Security feedback** - What feedback has been received about your security processes
- **Improvement ideas** - Suggestions for enhancing IT and cybersecurity
This will help everyone stay on the same page and create a more transparent and collaborative work environment.
## Encouraging Teamwork Between Departments
There are a few ways to encourage your teams—IT, security, and all other departments—to work together more effectively.
While updating your technology and adding collaborative tools is important, other ways to foster the teamwork you want to see exist.
Start by leading by example. Take time to collaborate with your team, share helpful insights and resources, and encourage them to do the same. Show that working together is valuable by actively seeking input and feedback.
Recognize both individual and team achievements, and when you see the kind of collaboration you want to promote, publicly reward it and clarify that these rewards will continue as teamwork does.
