Nowadays, businesses of all sizes rely so, so much on data. This makes it a hugely valuable asset. Unfortunately, it is also one of the most vulnerable.

We’ve reached a point where the cybersecurity protections most have relied on for years—things like basic antivirus and its ilk—just aren’t enough to properly protect against modern attacks and their ramifications. To really protect your business, you need protections like Managed Detection and Response.

## How Managed Detection and Response Protects Your Business

The difference between MDR and more antiquated security options really boils down to proactive versus reactive. Reactive security fails by default because the threat has already made itself known… it’s already taken effect. MDR, on the other hand, proactively monitors your network to identify and address threats before they gain a foothold, at all hours.

As a result, MDR provides protections that once upon a time were only available to large enterprises, pairing the strengths of human expertise and advanced technologies.

## What If a Breach Still Happens, or You Suffer Data Loss?

In either situation, a speedy recovery is critical to your business continuity. As such, we ensure you have access to your data through immutable backups.

The difference is simple: data stored in an immutable backup is locked down for a predetermined time (usually until the next immutable backup is saved). It cannot be changed. It cannot be overwritten. It cannot be deleted. Nobody has the requisite permissions to do so, not an attacker who gained admin access or a legitimate admin.

As a result, any scenario you experience still ends with you having a clean version of your data to restore from.

## How to Keep Your Office Secure

Don’t get us wrong… we can do a lot to boost your data security. That said, a lot of responsibility still falls to you and your team. For instance, *everyone* in your organization needs to develop and abide by the following behaviors:

- **Check Links Before You Click:** By simply hovering your cursor over a link before clicking it, you can see the actual destination… not just what an attacker potentially wants you to see.
- **Power Down Your Workstation:** Unless there is planned after-hours maintenance, you can significantly reduce your attack surface by turning off or restarting your devices at the end of the day.
- **Encourage Reporting:** You and your team should never hesitate to report any anomalies in a workstation’s functionality (such as sudden slowness or pop-ups) to tech support so we can investigate on your behalf.
